Groundwork
Describe a business idea. Get the boring parts back in one pass.
Groundwork takes an idea in plain English and returns the things you'd otherwise spend a weekend on: names that are actually available as domains, a reality check on whether the name is already someone's trademark, and the licences and permits you'd need to open where you are.
I built it because I'd just done all of that by hand for this studio and never wanted to again.
Domains That Are Really Free
It checks the registries, not a cached list, so a green result means you can buy it right now.
A Trademark Reality Check
Not legal advice — a plain reading of what's already registered in your category, so you find out before you've printed business cards.
The Licence Checklist
State and city, with links to the actual government pages. Every link is checked before each deploy; if one dies, the site refuses to publish until it's fixed.
On The Mac
The Mac app saves projects as files, puts licence deadlines into Reminders, and can watch a taken domain and tell you if it frees up.
How It Treats Your Data
Your idea is sent to an AI model to be understood and then forgotten. Share links are optional, expire after thirty days, and can be deleted by you at any time before that.
Price
Free.
Questions
Is this legal advice?
No. It's the homework you'd do before paying for legal advice.
Which countries?
United States only for now — the licence data is state by state.
Why 'Groundwork'?
Working title. It might change; the app will tell you if it does.
